“THERE IS NO WRONG DESCRIPTIVE TERM"....

Port is a sweet, fortified wine from the Douro Valley in the northern part of Portugul.  It takes its name from the city of Porto, the center of port export and trading.  Port has been made in Portugal since the mid 15th century.  It is typically thicker, richer, sweeter, and possesses a higher alcohol content than most other wines.  Dessert wines in the U.S. must exceed 14% alcohol.

Vintage Port is made entirely from grapes of a declared vintage year and are aged in barrels for a maximum of 2 years before bottling. They often require another 5 to 15 years of aging in the bottle before reaching what is considered proper drinking age.

Tawny Port is aged usually about 10 years in oak barrels and is let to oxidize and evaporate to give it a golden, tawny color.
